Ms. Giller

Welcome to room 22!

Hello! My name is Tracey Giller and I'm thrilled to have joined the Marquez community this year! I have been teaching in the Las Virgenes and Conejo Valley School Districts since I received my credential from California Lutheran University in 2010. I have taught kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grades, as well as having been a Reading Specialist for grades K-3 and an Intervention teacher in grades 3-7. Throughout my varied positions, one thing has never changed- I learn from my students EVERY day, and it's one of the best parts of teaching! My educational philosophy is pretty simple... "What we learn with pleasure, we never forget," (Mercier). To that end, I strive to have a strong community in my classroom where each student feels that his/her ideas are valued and that all students feel safe to make mistakes, grow, and thrive!

In addition to their English Language Arts curriculum, your children will be taught about growth mindset, a powerful attitude toward life and learning that turns what a student may initially perceive to be negative into a positive. An example of growth mindset would be; instead of saying, "I always make mistakes," the student will be taught to think and say, "Mistakes help me to learn." It is a powerful tool both in and out of the classroom and I've had great results using it with students of all abilities. If you'd like to learn more about growth mindset, there is a link in my classroom resources tab.

A little about me... I am married to my best friend, we have two kids (Christopher and Josh), and two Labs (Watson and Zoey), and we are all die hard Dodger fans. I love to travel, bake, and garden and my absolute favorite thing is the beach- how lucky am I to have landed here at Marquez?!

I hope to see everyone at Back to School night, but please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or just to say hello! Email is the best way to contact me, however, please be advised that if you email after 8am I will be teaching and may not be able to respond until after school. For anything time sensitive, please contact the office. Welcome to room 22!
