Rigorous Academics
Our classroom teachers provide a rigorous academic environment to reach the needs of all of our learners.English Language Arts: "Amplify CKLA is a unique core curriculum for grades PreK–5 ELA that’s grounded in the Science of Reading and combines rich, diverse content knowledge in history, science, literature, and the arts with systematic research-based foundational skills instruction... Mathematics: "Numbers should add up to more than the right answer. They should inspire aha moments and joyful connections. Diverse Enrichments
We strive to provide our students will special opportunities to complement our rigorous classroom programs:
Science: At Marquez, we utilize the Full Option Science System from UC Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science. "FOSS is widely recognized for its quality, rigor, support, and effectiveness." (FOSSnextgeneration.com)
Robotics: VEX GO is a "STEM construction system that taps into children's natural inquisitiveness. VEX GO utilizes the VEX IQ plastic construction system and adapts it for elementary students" (Vexrobotics.com)
Visual Arts: Visual and media arts involve strategic use of visual deconstruction, comparison, synthesis, analogical transfer and repetitive cycles of construction, evaluation and revision. It engages students in comparing and contrasting, making connections between form and content of works of art, allowing the student’s brain to detect patterns, contrast and movement.
Physical Education Our coaches instruct students in: movement skills, movement knowledge, social/cooperation skills, and provide health enhancing levels of physical fitness appropriate for each grade level.
Theatre Education allows students to create imaginary characters, stories and worlds while learning about the history of civilization. Theatre provides students the opportunity to imagine and physically express themselves in character and story. Embodying the traits of a character and putting themselves in place of another, students are able to reflect, observe and examine themselves and others around them within the context of an imagined world. Abstract thinking and active engagement lends to and develops predictive, reflective, critical thinking and metacognitive processes. Theatre develops comprehension skills of recognition and recall of details, sequencing of events, and generalizing the main idea.
